Why choose a dental implant?
Patients opt for implants over dentures for a variety of reasons, ranging from purely cosmetic to improved functionality. Dental implants not only match the tooth they replace but also need far less maintenance. In fact, implant maintenance is the same as caring for your natural teeth—through daily flossing and brushing.
Aside from the aesthetic benefits, implants protect the integrity of your jaw bone by replacing the root of the natural tooth. They also provide structure to prevent surrounding teeth from shifting.
But having an implant placed is a multi-step surgical procedure that will span several months until you can “rock” the final result. Patience is required—but it’s well worth the wait.
Okay, so you know dental implants are the best option for your smile. But how do you decide on the right surgeon to perform this procedure?
Here’s how to choose the right dentist for your dental implants.
1. The staff are experienced and pursue additional training.
It is important for dental professionals to continually pursue education. Firstly to maintain their licensure in the state of Michigan, dentists must complete 60 credit hours over a three-year period. But, more importantly, dentists need to maintain an up-to-date skillset to provide you with safe, proven services that follow best practices.
Dr. Bruce Sexton has been serving patients since 1984. He takes pride in keeping up with the latest education, techniques and dental technology. Each year Dr. Sexton ensures he is up to date with the latest dental technologies and techniques by attending advanced seminars and post-graduate courses. He also regularly, and happily, invests in professional coaches for himself as well as for the rest of the dental team.
Dr. Sexton is a member of the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, the West Michigan Dental Society, and the Chicago Dental Society. By maintaining membership to these associations and societies, his knowledge and skills remain current, and he learns from other professionals in the field.
2. The office uses the latest dental technology.
As dental technology and techniques advance, it is increasingly important for your dental team to have access to technical innovations. The latest advancements allow professionals to provide safer, more comfortable, more accurate services. We are now able to be incredibly proactive about prevention—more so than ever before.
Here at the offices of Dr. Sexton, we offer our patients dental services utilizing many of the best, proven technologies in the industry today.
One such tool is the Lava COS system, a toothbrush-sized, oral camera wand. This slim gadget takes digital impressions of your mouth so you can skip the uncomfortable, gooey molds used in years past. We are the first dental office in Wayland to offer this technology and can’t wait for you to experience how truly incredible it is!
Digital impressions allow us to provide extremely accurate dental prosthetics, such as crowns (which are needed for dental implants), for our patients. But this amazing tool is also great for providing all our patients with an interactive view of their mouth during education and treatment-plan discussions.
3. The practice has positive reviews from other patients.
As they say, the proof is in the pudding. Or in this case, the proof is in the reviews. Positive reviews from past patients show that they have received an experience so exceptional they felt compelled to take time out of their day to share their story.
Here at the offices of Dr. Bruce Sexton, our patients have given us an astounding 4.9 stars from 145 reviews. We are so grateful. Here are just a few:
William L. says, “I was very surprised to walk away from a dentist appointment feeling good. The service was top notch with friendly staff that makes you feel right at home. I would recommend this dentist office to anyone!”
Brenda G. says, “My visit to Dr. Sexton was hands down the most positive, pleasant, and comfortable dental visit EVER! I wish I had found this dentist years ago! I’m certain that if I had, I wouldn’t now need the extensive dental work that I do. If you’re searching for a new dentist, look no more… this is the one! I felt like everyone in this office went SO far above and beyond my expectations to make me feel comfortable and welcome; their attention to the details was amazing and SO appreciated; prices are very competitive; every single detail of my care plan was explained, discussed, agreed on, and provided to me in writing; I left with a complete understanding of what needs to be done, when and how it will be done, and the total cost of each procedure.”
4. They have examples of past work available.
An experienced dentist will have plenty of examples of past work they have done. They will have had many opportunities over the years to do smile makeovers and should feel a sense of pride in their work and want to share it with patients.
We now recognize that seeing results from other patients is an important part of the decision-making process for many of our patients. It’s helped put many of our patients’ minds at ease to see a gallery of natural-looking results and also to visualize what their own will look like.
We’ve made sure that our patients can gain access to other patients’ results, even before their initial visit, quickly and easily. You can meet some of our happy patients and view before and after pictures of their smile makeovers.
5. There are financing options that meet your needs.
It’s an unfortunate reality that many dental insurance plans don’t cover procedures beyond preventative care and the recommended biannual cleanings. It is all too common that dental patients find they will need to pay out of pocket to have the dental work they want and need to have done.
The team in Dr. Sexton’s office is here to help you as much as possible through this process.
We will bill any insurance company, with the exception of Medicaid, and are participating providers for Delta Premier plans and the traditional Blue Cross Blue Shield plans.
We offer multiple financing options to our patients. We accept cash, check, debit card, and credit card in full on the day of service. Those receiving procedures that include crowns, dentures, bridges, and dental implants have the option of making two payments. Fifty percent of the total will be due at the first appointment, and the second half at the final appointment. There is also a 5% cash courtesy available for those who opt to make an advance payment for treatment of $1,000 or more.
Our financial coordinators are available to assist patients who need a monthly payment option to cover the cost of their services. Many of these health care financing plans such as CareCredit and Citi Health Card are even interest-free.
